IDrive to the rescue! Dropbox charged my team of three $540 a year, or $54 a month, for storage space of 5TB. Love this product for sharing files between members of my team and for the price - absolutely amazing! We are a small team and only a small number of us need to have access to the folder system prior to IDrive I used Dropbox and was scratching to get away from Dropbox. But that was easy to overcome and with a little bit of practice, became easier and easier. When I first used it, I thought I was getting the hang of it, but it was doing something I didn’t understand. I love how easy the product is to actually use. but I'd still like the option of more granularity. The advantage of this approach is simplicity, the disadvantage is a lack of flexibility. In the same way, all local files/folders are handled as a single backup set, again with no granularity. The only way to omit one would be to leave it unplugged. My understanding from the FAQ and help files, together with practical use of the system, is that all network/external drives are handled as a single backup set. For example - to set weekly backups for one external drive and daily backups for another. If backups are daily and no more frequent this shouldn't be an issue, but it could well cause problems (or at least confusion) if backups were more frequent.I would like to see more granularity in the backup scheduling. I'm on the other side of the world and it seems nonsensical for me to schedule a 9 am backup on the 10th of November (10/11/22) to find that the system records it as being made at 3 am on 11/10/22. During the testing phase I contacted customer support with a relatively trivial query (see comment below re timestamps) and got a prompt answer - that was reassuring.Īll timings by the software use PST (Pacific Standard Time) and a US format timestamp. They also run if the machine is sleeping - waking, backing up and sleeping again. Scheduled backups run as expected, or as soon as the machine is turned on. I've used it to backup about half a terabyte of data so far, with more to be uploaded. I was sufficiently impressed to purchase the software. Initial testing showed that everything worked pretty much as expected 'out of the box' and that backups could be easily restored. All the basic functionality was available in the desktop app that I needed - scheduled backups of internal and external media. The cost per terabyte is commendably low and was the initial reason I tested iDrive. Backups have worked as expected and I hope never to have to use the recovery service for anything other than testing purposes. Upload speeds are limited by my bandwidth and I would definitely use the mail-in Express service if the UK shipping charges were more reasonable, or they had a UK-based upload service. (if accidentaly files were deleted from drive, you should contact with the customer service to restore, otherwise, you can do it FILE-BY-FILE, which is VERY INCONVINIENT!)NO DARK MODE ON THE IDRIVE APP (on win atleast), we are in 2023! Deleted files restoration is a literal pain, the system is not capable of handling well, not enough functions in the trash bin part. Uploaded files are NOT moveable to another folder, when already in Drive. I'm using this feature constantly with my clients, due the excessive amount of files / file-sizes, which occurs in our business. If you don't have to restore accidentaly deleted files, you got a great service for your money.Take a bit of time to learn the process, some things are not enough intuitive from user perspective.įast & reliable, file-sharing working properly. Opmerkingen: Fast & reliable, file-sharing working properly. It's also difficult to set up background process limitations, and that worries me with battery powered devices like a laptop, where I don't want the software to be running constantly in the background and draining battery life. Visually, it looks very outdated and in need of a refresh. The user interface (UI) is clunky and can be difficult to navigate. Being able to back up flash drives is also another feature that many other services don't offer natively. I also like that it has a companion mobile app that also backs up your phone's/tablet's files, and also allows you to access your backed up file. The pricing was better than many other cloud backup services. I like being able to schedule back ups, as well as the shared cloud folder that is automatically backed up and updated (if you turn it on in the settings). I would appreciate an updated UI to make things cleaner and easier to understand. Opmerkingen: So far I've enjoyed using this service and it does its job.
